What makes you feel old?
I would have to say, honestly, saying "that's the way it was when i was kid" to my little sisters. It is the craziest thing. My sisters are 8 & 4. I am 23. It is a bit odd to think that at my age (which most of my coworkers think i am so young, only because some of their kids are around my age). I do not think I am old, but certain things often make me fee that way.
What makes you feel young?
Oh this is easy! Watching cartoons or reading the funnies from the Sunday paper. I never feel old when i see something cartoon-ish.
What was better when you were allowed to do it the old way?
Getting dressed as a kid. I did not care what matched or anything. If it was my favorite shirt or i liked the color that day, i put it on. Some of the pictures of me dressing myself as a kid makes me think what was going through my head but i still cannot help but laugh!
What’s better now that you do it the new way?
Mail & keeping in touch. Hands down. I can save on stamps because i can now use the internet with places like Facebook or MySpace in order to keep up with my high school buddies that have moved or gotten married. It is nice to know what they are doing!
What’s something you are old school about?
Singing to the radio in the car. I use to belt out my favorite songs when i was a kid with my step mom. To this day, i still belt my favorite songs regardless if I am by myself or with my friends. Keeps the edge off, I swear! Besides, its nice to karaoke when you have had practice! HA HA!
And the Wieners are...
Well, before I announce the winners, I must state that we only had 16 respondents and that some categories did not have a true winner. Anyway, without further ado, the winners are...
- Best Damn Blogger Ever = Redzilla with a close second being Cupcate
- Best Comments = lauowolf
- Most Reliable = SweetMisery
- Most Influential = CupCate with Miss Scotch and Redzilla in a close second
- Best Pictures, etc...= No clear winner
- Most Humouristic Blogger = Tie between Nancy Mitchell and crankypants
- Best Stalker = 4 way tie (Paxton, Valerae, http://lezleevictoriah.vox.com/, and Happyhippy (don't know this one)
- Most likely to blog... = SweetMisery
- Most likely to fizzle... = I gotta give it to Sixbucksamonkey although it ain't happening...
- Just Because = No clear winner
Well, there you have it. A contest of sorts that will end not quite in sorts. So, comment on the winners you know and meet the ones you don't know. Maybe one day this contest will be taken up again by one braver and more apt with counting than KAC.
Once again, your humble stat keepers - KAC (well at least Ash):
It's Tuesday and I am bored, so here you go...
I propose a best VOX member contest - with categories. Why? See my first sentence.
The Contest*:
You will vote on your favourite HOOD member for each of several categories. You will do this by Private Messaging me. I will then compile the votes and we will have run-offs if necessary; if not, I will announce the winners. The winners will receive the accolades they deserve for being the best at whatever category they win. Unless, somebody can offer a better prize - I have nothing else (maybe a book bag). The person for whom you vote must be in your HOOD prior to voting. They do NOT have to be in MY HOOD, nor do you have to be in MY HOOD to be eligible.
The Categories:
- Best Damn Blogger Ever
- Best Comments
- Most Reliable
- Most Influential
- Best Pictures/Video/Books/Etc...(media)
- Most Humouristic Blogger
- Best Stalker (for those of you into that, I know there are some)
- Most likely to Blog until the Nets is no more
- Most likely to fizzle out before long
- Just Because...
Okay, those are the categories. I don't have to know why you voted for a person, just who and in what category. You only get one vote per category.
The Timeline:
You have until October 31 to get your votes in to me. Should be long enough I imagine. Maybe too long, but that can't hurt - unless I forget, which I will not. The winners will be announced shortly there after.
Your votes will be recorded true and accurate because I have the law furm of Kit, Ash, and Clyde (KAC) watching my every move.
That's all, spread the word and start voting...
The Law Furm of...
Kit, Ash, and Clyde will be counting your votes.
*I am aware that this may have been done, but I was NOT involved. So, let's do it again, shall we? Also, we need participation for this to work with any type of statistical integrity - lol.
- What new shows are you going to watch this year?
--Heroes, Doctor Who, Torchwood (even though I've already watched all of this year's episodes on the Internet), Lost, Race to Mars, The Tudors, Journeyman (but I'll give it up fast if it sucks), Moonlight (yeah, I know, I know. It's yet another show about an angst-ridden vampire...), and if I have nothing else to do and want to watch TV, Bones and House. - What shows do you currently watch?
--Nothing but the daily 6pm news on Global. I'm waiting for my new shows to start. - Name a show that was on when you were younger.
--The Friendly Giant - How much tv do you usually watch?
--Summer, almost nothing except for the news. Rest of the year, about 10 to 20 hours a week depending on how many of my shows are showing new episodes and whether or not I dropped any series because they turned out to be bad or boring. - Show us something you bought because you saw it on tv. --I bought this Serenity DVD because of the Firefly TV series.

The Friday Five for 8/31/07
1. When you get sick, do you have a home remedy you swear by? Sleep, sleep and more sleep. When congested hot showers also work.
2. When was the last time you were sick? A few weeks ago I had a bad sinus infection.
3. Have you ever broken any bones? ::knocks on wood:: No, and it's a freaking miracle as I'm a huge klutz who has ended up in the emergency room quite a few times in my years. Somehow I always sprain things badly, but never break anything, which alas, tends to take longer to heal.
4. Are you allergic to anything? I have the basic allergies to pollen/grass. I'm allergic to dogs and can't be around them too long, which makes me sad. And I'm allergic to various medications that tend to lead to me breaking out in hives.
5. Show us something that always makes you feel better.
Ever since I was a kid this has been the movie that I watch when I'm sick. When I used to get pnuemonia and be out of school for over a week, I would watch this movie every day. I love it so much.
1. When you get sick, do you have a home remedy you swear by?
Lots of sleeping. I don't do chicken soup, or anything like that. But if someone wants to bring me some, I'll sure eat it!
2. When was the last time you were sick?
Hmm....I don't know. I don't remember. I think it was in april.
3. Have you ever broken any bones?
I'm pretty sure I've broken most of my toes, and all of my fingers(but not my thumbs) at some point or another. I'm not sure though, I didn't go to the doctor. Why, so they could tape my fingers together? No thank you. then I'd have two fingers I can't use.
The only bones I'm sure I broke are all of the bones across the top of my left foot. I was in grade one (so 6? maybe 7?). I was at the playground down the street from my house, by myself. I was going across the monkey bars, and let go part way through. The doctor thought I must have landed on a rock, or something, and the pressure coming up broke all those little bones. I biked home (I tried to walk, but my leg kept giving out under the weight of my body..ya know, cause my foot couldn't support it..), and when I took off my shoe, my foot swelled up to twice it's size. That's when I started crying.
...I just realized after I typed that all out, that I'd answered this here before. Damn it, I could have used copy and paste...
4. Are you allergic to anything?
Not to my knowledge, no.
5. Show us something that always makes you feel better.
- When you get sick, do you have a home remedy you swear by? Shinhwa and peach jello
- When was the last time you were sick? Everyday there's something wrong with me.
- Have you ever broken any bones? My right pinky toe and the toe next to it. When your mom tells you to stop running in the house, do what she says! Funny thing is, when mine healed, she did the same thing on the same chair
- Are you allergic to anything? Compazine. It's supposed to be an anti nausea medicine but it makes me hurl like the exorcist!
- Show us something that always makes you feel better.
- When was the last time you did something irresponsible?
- Tell us about a mistake you have made.
- When was the last time you did something fun?
- What's the last thing you learned?
- Show us something you had since you were little.
1. On Saturday. We went to BooksAMillion and I knowingly overspent.
2. A couple of Christmas's ago we went Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving. I forgot to write every single purchase down in the checkbook. The bank statement came, and not a single purchase was on there...so about a month later everything started bouncing and I couldn't figure out why....until the next statement came in. Oops!! The bank was extremely nice and split the bounce fees with me 50/50. I am a loyal customer! And now, if it seems like we have too much or too little money: I check the account out on-line.
3. Something fun? uhm...back in May we went on a canoe/float trip down the Buffalo River in TN. I still have the scars.
4. Last thing I learned? I learn something new every day. I can't pinpoint a specific thing, though.
5. I've had 'Teddy' since Christmas 1971. The blanket he is on is from that time, too.
- When was the last party you attended? I went to a the farewell of 2 friends who are leaving the church they are involved in (and which I used to go to). They are husband and wife and the husband is training to be a priest in the Anglican church. He will be training at All Saints Peckham.
- Have you seen fireworks this year? No.
- What was the last alcoholic drink you had? Pimms and the left over flat dregs of Schweppes lemonade from my birthday lunch at the beginning of July. I was a bit desperate at the time for something boozy to drink.
- Have you ever partied a little too much, and wondered what happened the next morning? No - I generally remember when I've made a fool of myself. I remember I once got trashed at a church (hey we're talking about English Anglicans here!) fancy dress party in 2004 and someone told me that I made disparaging remarks about a friend of mine whose husband drove me home in a dishevelled state. At the time I was dressed as Bridget Jones.
- Show us a great party
This was taken by my friend Jenny's friend Kat at a BBQ we had on a sunny afternoon at Jenny's flat in Deptford. We drank lots of Swedish vanilla and raspberry vodka which Jenny was trying to get rid of as she was moving back to Sweden.
